Breeding Basic for Peachface Lovebirds

lovebird breeding

The most basic breeding of all roseicollis (peach faces) is the Wild Type green peach face.  Regardless if what color you paired up with the WT green peachface, all the offspring will always be WT green peach face. There is not other that will come out from that type of pair. However, if there is any other color mutation that do come out from that paired, it means only one thing. One or both of the parent is split to other color or mutation.  For example, if you breed the WT green peach face to the green orange face, all the offspring will always be WT green peach face only. You will see any green orange face offspring.

However, the offspring are all split to green orange face.  What is that mean?  That means that if the offspring is breed to other green type orange face, you will be able to produce WT green peach faces as well as green orange face lovebirds.

This doesn't matter if the WT green peach face is breed to a dutch blue (aqua) mutation, all of the offspring will always be WT green peach faces. Just like the example with the green orange face, all of the offspring will be split to dutch blue (aqua) mutation.  If we breed the offspring to any other dutch blue (aqua) mutation, you will be able to produce WT green peach faces as well as dutch blue (aqua) mutation as well. All of the WT green peach faces offspring will again be split to dutch blue (aqua) mutation again.

Now breeding the WT green peach face to lutino peachface.  All the offspring will only be WT green peach face.  However, only the male will be split to lutino.  The female cannot split to lutino because the lutino gene is a sex-linked.  I will be talking about the sex-linked gene on another section.

Now breeding the WT green peach face to cinnamon peachface.  All of the offspring will only be WT green peach faces. However, only the male will be split to cinnamon. The female cannot be split to cinnamon because the cinnamon gene is sex-linked. Also, I will be discussion this gene on another section.

The green orange face is diluted version of the WT green peachface as well as the dutch blue. Therefore, if you breed the green orange face to the dutch blue (aqua), all of the spring will only be green orange faces.   Because the green orange face is dominate over the blue series such as the dutch blue (aqua).  However, all of the offspring will be split to dutch blue (aqua) mutation. Therefore, if we breed the offspring to another aqua mutation, the offspring can be green orange faces as well as the aqua mutation.  Also, all of the green orange face will also be split to aqua mutation again.

If you are breeding green orange faces to green orange faces, you will only get green orange faces. You cannot get any other colors or mutation. Unless the bird is split to other color or mutations.

If you are breeding dutch blue to dutch blue, you will only get dutch blues (aqua) mutation only.  You cannot get any other color or mutation. Unless the aqua is split to other color or/and mutation.

Here are the formulas:

WT green x WT green = 100% WT green

WT green x green orange face = 100% WT green split to orange face

WT green x dutch blue (aqua) = 100% WT green split to dutch blue (aqua)

WT green x PF cinnamon = 100% WT green. And only the male will split to cinnamon because of the sex-linked of cinnamon
WT green x OF cinnamon = 100% WT green split to OF.  And only the male will split OF cinnamon.  But the female is split to OF.
WT green x WF cinnamon = 100% WT green split to WT. And only the male will split WF cinnamon. But the female is split to WT.

WT green X PF lutino = 100% WT green.  And only the male will be split to lutino because of the the sex-linked of the lutino.
WT green x OF lutino= 100% WT green split to OF.  And only the male will split OF lutino  But the female is split to OF.
WT green x WF lutino(creamino) = 100% WT green split to WT. And only the male will split WF lutino (creamino). But the female is split to WT.

green OF x dutch blue (aqua) = 100% green OF split to Aqua.

green OF x OF cinnamon = 100% green OF. Only the male will split to cinnamon. Because cinnamon is a sex-linked gene
green OF x WF cinnamon = 100% green OF split to WF.  Only the male will be split to cinnamon. Because cinnamon is a sex-linked gene
green OF x OF lutino = 100% green OF.  Only the male will be split to OF lutino. Because lutino is a sex-linked gene
green OF x creamino = 100% green OF split Aqua(blue).  Only the male will be split creamino. Because creamino is a sex-linked gene

Dutch blue (Aqua) x Dutch blue (Aqua) = 100% Aqua.
Dutch blue x WF cinnamon = 100% Aqua. Only the male will be split to cinnamon. Because cinnamon is a sex-linked gene
Dutch blue x creamino = 100% Aqua. Only the male will be split to creamino. Because lutino is a sex-linked gene.

Lutino PF x Lutino PF = 100% lutino PF
Lutino PF x lutino OF = 100% lutino PF split OF.
Lutino PF x creamino = 100% lutino PF split creamino.

Lutino OF x Lutino OF = 100% lutino OF.
Lutino OF x creamino = 100% lutino OF split to creamino.

Creamino x Creamino = 100% creamino

AQUA series (blue series)

Dutch blue x Cobalt blue = Dutch blue split to cobalt

All of these breeding formulas are about as basic it can get.

Now with the "Pieds."  The Pieds are dominate gene. That means, you produce the pieds, all you need is one pied to produce the pieds again. But doesn't mean you will get 100% pied.  It means if you have only one pied, the offspring will have 50% chances to be pieds.  The offspring that is not pieds are not split to pieds. Pieds cannot be split. Or, not birds can be split to pieds.

WT green x green PF pied = 50% WT green , 50% green PF pieds.
WT green x orange face pied = 50% WT green split OF , 50% green PF pieds split to OF
WT green x WF pieds = 50% WT green split WF, 50% green PF pieds split to WF

green OF x green OF pieds = 50% green OF, 50% green OF pieds
green OF x WF pieds = 50% green OF split WF, 50% green OF pieds split WF

Aqua x Aqua Pieds = 50% Aqua, 50% aqua Pieds.

PF pieds x PF pieds = 100% PF pieds
PF pieds x OF pieds = 100% PF pieds split OF
PF pieds x WF pieds = 100% PF pieds split WF
OF pieds x OF pieds = 100% OF pieds
OF pieds x WF pieds = 100% OF pieds split WF
Aqua pieds x Aqua pieds = 100% Aqua Pieds

PF pieds X PF cinnamon = 50% green PF, 50% PF pieds. Only the males will be split to cinnamon. Because cinnamon is a sex-linked gene
PF pieds X PF lutino = 50% green PF, 50% PF pieds. Only the males will be split to lutino. Because lutino is a sex-linked gene

PF pieds x OF cinnamon = 50% green PF split OF, 50% PF pieds split OF.  Only the males will be split to cinnamon.
PF pieds x OF lutino = 50% green PF split OF, 50% PF pieds split OF. Only the male swill be split to lutino.

PF pieds x WF cinnamon = 50% green PF split to WF, 50% PF pieds split WF.  Only the males will split to cinnamon
PF pieds x creamino = 50% green PF split to WF, 50% PF pieds split WF. Only the males will split to lutino.

OF pieds x OF cinnamon = 50% green OF, 50% OF pieds. Only the males will be split to cinnamon.
OF pieds X OF lutino = 50% green OF, 50% OF pieds. Only the males will split to lutino.

OF pieds x WF cinnamon = 50% green OF split WF, 50% OF pieds split WF. Only the males will be split to cinnamon.
OF pieds x creamino = 50% green OF split WF, 50% OF pieds split WF. Only the males will be split to lutino.

Aqua Pieds x WF cinnamon = 50% Aqua, 50% Aqua pieds. Only the males will be split to cinnamon.
Aqua Pieds x creamino = 50% Aqua, 50% Aqua pieds. Only the males will be split to creamino.

All of these examples are all about the first generation breeding and first generation offspring. These are what you suppose to get. If there is any other colors or mutations that comes out from these types of pairs, that means one or both of the parent is split to other color or mutation.
